Hey there, I love the way you write and I'm excited to dive in a little further. I can feel the pain behind the "I’ve never been able to wrap my head around money management." I can feel it because it's a pain I get the honor of working with and transforming on a regular basis. I'm a wealth and integrity coach - akin to a money therapist + business coach. I help people transform their relationship to money and take specific healing actions to ensure that they don't feel the need to control money or themselves so they can find ways to be at ease and flow with money. Candis, the comments section of another person's Substack is not the place to advertise your services or your Substack. After reading one of my posts, you can't possibly know me in any real way. You're entirely wrong about feeling my "pain." I don't feel pain around my money management challenge. It's a common challenge for neurodivergent people and one I want to tackle this year. But I'm not sitting here feeling a lot of angst about it. I feel misread and misunderstood. I wish you the best, but I do not need your services.

Understood. Thank you for taking the time to respond. As someone who is also neurodivergent, I hear you loud and clear. Best wishes and may your new year bring you the blessings you seek.

You can better understand this goal by first determining your highest living standard. This baseline gives texture to not spending.

Really love this article, Sandra! You've made it very easy to think about how to approach a 'no-spend' month in ways that are do-able for each of us, according to our circumstances. Sometimes I get stuck in an all-or-nothing mentality, but reading this piece I see a couple of strategies that could work for me, and I love how you frame it all in an outlook of consciousness/mindfulness.

The other practical tip I'd offer is that second-hand and thrift stores are a boon. Whenever I'm clothes shopping or looking for small pieces of furniture, those are the first places I'll check. At least half the time I find what I'm looking for, and will guess I've saved hundreds of dollars each year by doing that rather than buying everything new. Even when new things are on sale, they still cost far more than lightly owned goods.

Maia, I'm so glad you love this article! Thanks for your kind words. Maybe the world doesn't need another "spend" article, but the idea excites me, and I tried to put my own spin on it. I'm thrilled you found it approachable. Thanks for the second-hand store tip. You're right; they sometimes have great finds, and you can save a lot of money when you don't buy new. Good luck with the strategies that you think could work for you.

I’m not a big spender, but I could definitely use the challenge to bring more awareness to my little spendings habits, like a chocolate bar here, a coffee there, another notebook… it adds up. So, I’m in!

Jessica, Awesome! I'm not a big spender either, but as you point out, the little things can add up. Let's do this!

Agreed! I am not a big spender to begin with. Over the last three months, I have been bringing more conscious awareness to the little things too! They definitely add up. For me, right now, I have a no-spend timeline during the work week and then when I am out adventuring on the weekends, I give myself a little treat ( a matcha, tea, snack)

You read my mind, Sandra. I've just been thinking about how much I have--and yet I keep buying more. Thank you for this, you've got my brain rolling, thinking about ways I can corral my spending.

Charlotte,

I'm thrilled to hear that! A no-spend isn't the only way to save money, but I'm excited to start there and curious about what I will learn. Good luck with corraling your spending and please write about it when you find a good path forward.
