Dear Sandra,

I hope you don't feel alone in this experience! Actually I think a lot of people are quite disconnected from our bodies, a lot of the time, including me. I have had a similar learning curve as you, especially after breaking my humerus and tearing a rotator cuff after a particularly weird fall a couple of years ago, which was likely precipitated by a body disconnect. I also got physical therapy for about 8 weeks, which I found immensely helpful, though I had to move through my resistance and awkwardness. Thank goodness for skillful and honest physical therapists!

What I've found helpful is to make a practice of listening more carefully to my body. It holds a lot of wisdom, but often I'm not tuned in on that level or am not slowed down enough to be aware of it. It's kind of like meditation in motion -- inviting myself into noticing what my body is experiencing, and what it might be trying to tell me. The more I do it, the more in tune I get. But just like meditation it's easy to fall out of practice... and then gently return. So yes, kindness is the key!

yes...we should treat our bodies like a friend...we would never abuse them in that way..

have you ever read the book Top Five Regrets of the Dying ...it`s not as depressing as it sounds..

but I think you`ll connect with the author or maybe you already have ..Bronnie Ware

I just turned 67 years old. I have been exercising all my life--running, weight-training, etc. very consistently. And while I'm in very good health, my body is still getting older, and I get injuries sometimes & parts of my body start having arthritis pain. Recently, my back started hurting so badly that I was sure I had a slipped disc or something. I went to an ortho doctor, and he took x-rays and said everything was in place--it was just arthritis. The pain was so bad, I could barely go from sitting to standing. Then I realized it had been a while since I had been oil pulling. That's another thing I usually do regularly. Fifteen minutes in the morning with coconut oil, and I also take a tumeric/boswellia (or frankincense) supplement several times a day. I went back to that, and within a couple of days, my back pain was completely gone! I really believe Ayurvedic doctors in India have it right when they say all disease begins with bacteria in the mouth that travels through our bodies looking for dry joints to land on and start inflammation! I tend to get out of oil-pulling until some part of my body starts hurting, and then I go back to it, and within a couple of days, the pain is gone again!
