Welcome to Wild Arisings
Aloha Lovelies,
Welcome to my island of sanity and serenity. I write about mindfulness, self-awareness, and living with ease, sharing a mix of personal stories and feature articles.
You’ll find my writing helpful if:
Your mind feels like a relentless stream of wild arisings (thoughts)
Your emotions pop at the slightest provocation
You think you have little control over either one
That’s the status quo in a speedy, distracting world. But that’s not what you truly want or deserve, is it?
Overthinking and overreacting deplete our joy, increase our stress, and trigger distressing emotions. I know because I was an unconscious whirlwind of reactivity for a significant part of my life.
Then, I began to study mindfulness, learning how to calm my mind and transform my less desirable habitual patterns. Since then, I’ve dedicated myself to self-awareness, self-healing, and personal transformation.
I’ve come a long way from those intense whirlwind days. And because I’ve grown and evolved, I’m confident you can also learn to live calmly and consciously with compassion for yourself and others.
That’s what Wild Arisings is all about. I’ll guide, inspire, and encourage you as we stumble, succeed, and grow together.
The best time to start is right now because we never know how many tomorrows we’ll have. You deserve to live each moment as fully as possible.

About Sandra
My life took a sharp turn in my early thirties when I began to study Buddhism and learned about transforming the heart and mind through self-awareness, mindfulness, and kindness to self and others.
I wanted to save the world, but little did I know I needed to save myself. Decades later, my body broke down due to workaholism. Only then did I gradually begin to look within and face the wounds, patterns, and traumas I needed to heal.
Here are some experiences that have shaped my life and fueled my dedicated journey of self-healing and self-awareness.
As a sexual assault survivor in my early twenties, I co-founded a local and statewide women against rape organization. Later in life, I studied trauma with experts like Irene Lyon and the team from the Trauma Resource Institute. I’ve also received Somatic Experiencing trauma therapy and am currently exploring the Safe and Sound protocol.
When I burned out from overwork, my body broke down, and a mast cell disorder called Hereditary Alpha Tryptasemia took over. At one point, I dropped to 84 pounds. It took determination to recover.
I devoted myself for many years to a charismatic spiritual teacher who was later revealed as a serial abuser. Leaving what I now knew to be a cult catapulted me into new levels of soul searching and self-discovery.
I’ve studied Buddhism for decades with some of the most eminent teachers of our time and continue to practice daily mindfulness meditation.
Teaching mindfulness, loving-kindness, and Buddhism 101 courses for over five years has deepened my understanding and ability to share these life-changing methods.
I’ve navigated the pain and loss of a gray divorce and learned to thrive living on my own.
I’m neurodivergent.
As you can see, I’ve had many opportunities to develop a wealth of life wisdom and focused training in mindfulness and meditation.
I’ve also held various jobs:
Non-profit Director
Employment Counselor
Fundraising Consultant
Online Writer
Freelance Copywriter
I live on the Big Island of Hawaii and have written online about personal and spiritual growth for over a decade.
Everyone is welcome!
I cherish every subscriber, but I need a circle of paid subscribers to continue writing regularly. To make the annual subscription affordable to as many people as possible, I've set the price at $35. That amount is a little less than a weekly Starbucks coffee, which, delicious as it might be, will not bring you a deeper sense of inner peace.
Commit to yourself. Become a paid or free subscriber and receive regular caring advice on living with mindfulness and ease.
Wishing you the best, always.
