I was particularly moved by the line, "Every human being is treacherous to every other human being because they must be true to their own soul." That's a powerful and somewhat unsettling thought. It's easy to get caught up in the idea that people should always be there for us, but the truth is, everyone is on their own journey, with their own priorities and needs. It's not malicious, just human. Recognizing this has helped me soften my expectations and focus more on building a solid relationship with myself. If I can be true to my own soul, then I can better understand and accept when others need to do the same.
Alexander, I love how you've responded to that powerful line. It seems like such a powerful truth to me, yet, as you point out, we tend to expect otherwise. Thanks for sharing your incredible insights about how building a solid relationship with yourself is so key to healthy relationships with others.
Sandra, how wonderful to discover you here after many years have passed since we last spoke/exchanged ideas. Thank you for sharing your experience with the fear of abandonment and your solution. It can be applied to comfort ourselves when we faced with this or other fears.
Flora, how wonderful to see you! We writers keep showing up in new places. We're a persistent lot. I will check out your Substack. I'm glad you liked my piece. Be well!
